What is a dental implant?

There are two parts to every tooth: the crown and the root. With dental implants, the root is made of titanium, which is placed into the gum to form a secure foundation. The crown (or replacement tooth) is fitted on top to create a comfortable, life-like replacement.

Why dental implants to replace missing teeth?

There are many ways to replace tooth crowns, but only dental implants can replace the entire tooth including both crown and root. Dental implants really are the next best thing to having your own teeth. Leaving the missing tooth space empty may not sound too serious, but the consequences of not filling in the space from the missing tooth could mean movement of your other teeth or eventual shrinkage of your jawbone.

How can I benefit from dental implants?

Research and documentation show natural-looking, safe and long-lasting results. Hundreds of thousands of people are now enjoying their new smiles and their ability to laugh, speak and eat with confidence!

How do dental implants differ from real teeth?

No one will know you have dental implants unless you tell them. With implant supported teeth it is almost impossible to tell the difference compared to natural teeth. The visible part of your dental implant is a life-like, tooth coloured crown that is crafted to look, feel and function just like your natural teeth - matching them in size, colour, contour and shape.

Implants in a Day – All-On-4

We offer the Implants in a day - All-On-4 treatment method. With this method four to six dental implants replace a whole arch of missing teeth and this treatment is usually completed all in the same day. Contact us to find out if this could be the right option for you.

Are dental implants safe?

Modern dental implant techniques and technology have been extensively researched and used for over 30 years. Dental implants are made of pure titanium which the body accepts like no other metal, they are therefore proven to be safe, biologically compatible and can become part of you for a very long time.

Why dental implants to replace missing teeth?

With proper care and cleaning, dental implants can last a lifetime. Like natural teeth, with the passing of time, the crowns could become worn or damaged. The big difference is that your new teeth can easily be repaired or replaced, using the same implants for support.

What does treatment involve?

A number of different types of implants and techniques exist with dental implant therapy. At Westdale Dental, we assess each individual case in great detail to find the right treatment option for you.

As a patient, your options will be fully discussed with you and a treatment plan established to reflect your unique needs.

The length of your treatment can range from 8 to 12 months depending on the complexity of your care.

Aftercare and maintenance

With proper care and attention, dental implants can last for many years. Just like natural teeth, they need to be regularly serviced and maintained to ensure optimum oral health care, including healthy gums and a fresh breath.

You will be requested to attend a number of review appointments to enable your dentist to carry out routine examinations of your dental implants, as well as to make any adjustments that might be necessary.

Having dental implants may also mean that there will be areas of your mouth that you find a bit more difficult to clean than usual. Frequent visits to your hygienist will ensure that you benefit from a professional clean and helpful advice, helping you to make the most of your perfect new smile.

What is an implant supported denture?

An implant-supported denture is a type of denture that is supported by and attached to implants. An implant-supported denture is attached to implants, while a regular denture rests on the gums, is not supported by implants, and tends to fit less firmly in the mouth.

Compared to conventional dentures, implant supported teeth:

  • Are more stable than regular dentures
  • Are comfortable and stay in place
  • Do not need other teeth for support or to be held in place with sticky denture gels
  • Function, look and feel like natural teeth
  • Enable you to laugh, speak, eat and smile with confidence
